Challenging Classroom Behaviors: Attention-Seeking, Avoidance of Failure, and Power and Revenge Intervention Skills & Strategies

Participants will gain skills and knowledge in providing interventions for the common classroom discipline problem areas of attention-seeking behavior, power-seeking behavior, revenge-seeking behavior and avoidance of failure behaviors.  Techniques to identify each type of behavior and a comprehensive collection of interventions strategies will be shared.  Dozens of strategies to build a positive classroom environment and strategies to improve communication with parents will be presented.

Participants will learn strategies and gain skills in mastering crucial conversations, creating safe and supportive conversations, stopping the blame game, disentangling intent from impact, developing learning conversations, problem solving, and speaking with clarity and power.

Effective Parent Communication: Developing Successful Partnerships (NEW!)

Many today are troubled by the lack of patience and perseverance our students demonstrate inside and outside of the classroom.  In this course we will examine the skills and strategies that students can be taught to elicit perseverance.   Brain-based research, proven teaching methodologies and curriculum adaptations will be considered in order to produce a more positive climate, greater cognitive capacity, increased motivation and effort, deep academic understanding, and improved energy and focus.

The Resilient Classroom: Discovering Responsible Independence, Community, and Motivated Learning

Fine-tune classroom experiences for students with a needs-based approach while experiencing meaningful tools for empowering students, organizing management practices, and developing strategies for maximizing student learning. Enjoy an experiential, hands-on environment with best practices, research, and community building.  This course may be taken for either one or three credits, with the three-credit option continuing online for four weeks.
