WI Reading Specialist 17

License Information

Upon Completion of Coursework:

  1. Contact the program specialist to ensure that all required courses have been completed and posted to transcripts
  2. Submit the completed Application for Certificate to the program specialist; this initiates a degree audit
  3. Provide evidence that a passing score was earned on the Wisconsin Foundation of Reading Test
  4. Monitor your email account(s) for communication from Viterbo
  5. Your program specialist will notify you when you are cleared to apply for your DPI license

Department of Public Instruction Requirements for Applying for Licensure:

Prior to applying for the Reading Specialist 17 License, candidates must have successfully completed the following:

  1. Reading Teacher (316) License
  2. Master of Arts in Education
  3. Viterbo University required Reading Specialist coursework (see completion steps above)
  4. Wisconsin Foundations of Reading Test
  5. A minimum of three years of successful, non-substitute classroom teaching experience is required for state licensure. (Students may apply to the program and begin coursework prior to fulfilling this requirement.)

Applicants must apply for all educator licenses online at the Department of Public Instruction ELO website.

Current Graduate Tuition: $355 per credit for the 2016-2017 academic year

Register for Courses:  Call 1-800-234-8721 to register for courses.  It is recommended that educators register for all courses a minimum of 10 days in advance.
