Rachel Fawver ’10
Degree: Master of Arts in Education
Career: Principal, Evergreen Elementary School in the School District of Holmen
Rachel Fawver had a rewarding career teaching English when she decided she wanted a leadership position and the ability to have a greater influence on education as a whole.
She enrolled in Viterbo University’s Master of Arts in Education program.
“Viterbo had the licensure programs for which I was looking, was very friendly to working adults, and had a servant leadership component,” Fawver said. “Now what I love about my job is that I’m serving the entire community and I’m an instructional leader.”
Fawver has always enjoyed working with people, and her current position gives her the best of both worlds—community, staff, and student interaction.
“We are here for everyone—the students their families, staff members, and the entire community,” she said. “It’s a people business. That’s the best part of the job. No two days are the same, and you know you’re needed. It feels good to know I’m positively impacting people.”
As a principal, Fawver said she stresses the qualities of “passion, persistence, and perspective” and the importance of being a role model to her teachers. She also believes strongly in teacher collaboration, servant leadership, and welcoming the entire community. To her students, she extolls the virtues of hard work, being a good friend and helping one another, being welcoming to others, striving to meet high expectations, and having pride in themselves.
“I had a great experience at Viterbo,” Fawver said. “The program helped to mold me into the leader I am today.”
