Happiness and the Virtues
A Conference on the Character Traits of a Flourishing Life
La Crosse, Wisconsin
April 10-12, 2014
The 2014 conference is the culmination of seven years of conferences on the cardinal and theological virtues. We invite papers examining the meaning, history, and practical implications of the idea of happiness in relation to the virtues. We encourage submissions from a variety of disciplinary perspectives.
Presentations may include the following topics:
- The role of happiness in the moral life
- The psychology of happiness
- The varieties of happiness: flourishing, blessedness, joy
- Historical conceptions of happiness
- Cultural perspectives on happiness
- Happiness and its counterfeits

Presentation proposals should be no more than two pages in length and include name, affiliation, address, and email address. Presentations will be limited to 20 minutes with ample time provided for discussion. Proposals for panel discussions and “works in progress” are encouraged. Deadline for submission is January 10, 2014.
