Rachel Murnane
I Am Not A Poet; This Is Not A Poem
Syllables, even
Phonetics, sweetened
Each word, chosen -
The best poems
Are these?
Insightful,
Yet never too deep
Or controversial
In between, dainty,
But beautiful -
How poems
Should be?
Small and delightful
Savory and decipherable
No room for
Diversity
In the world
Of poetry?
What then
Are these lines?
Issued
Not from my mind,
But from my soul.
So it goes.
I am not a poet;
This is not a poem.
