Admission is based on talent, academic ability, and potential for success in a theatre-related career. Our selective admission process means you will benefit from small class sizes and many production opportunities.

Three simple steps:

  1. Apply to Viterbo University using our online application

  2. Go to our audition preview platform at www.getacceptd.com/viterbo to upload the required materials. (See details and click the green button below to connect)

  3. Schedule your audition/portfolio review using the "Audition Request Application" on our ACCEPTD page.

All auditions and interviews require a confirmed appointment at least a week prior to the requested date. Confirmation of your audition/portfolio review date, location, and time will be sent to your email.

We have partnered with ACCEPTD, an online service that makes it possible for us to preview your audition, portfolio, and application materials. This innovative platform allows you to upload your headshot, resume, video clips of your audition, portfolio pieces (as appropriate to your program interest), letters of recommendation, and scanned copies of your transcripts for faculty to preview prior to meeting you.The uploaded materials provide us with an introduction to you. YOU MUST STILL AUDITION/INTERVIEW FOR US IN PERSON AT ONE OF OUR SCHEDULED AUDITION SITES.

Complete your upload by:

  • Monday, Nov. 26 for the Dec. 1, 2012 on-campus audition.
  • Monday, Jan. 7 for all other audition dates.

Note: Your letters of recommendation and transcripts may be uploaded after the due dates listed above. An official hard copy of your transcript and your ACT/SAT scores MUST be sent to our Admission office to complete your application. Audition Options:

  • On-campus Auditions offer a comprehensive experience that will provide you with important information to make your decision about where you would like to go to school. You will be able to meet faculty and students, visit classes, see a show or rehearsal, and tour the campus.

  • National Unified Auditions provide an opportunity to audition for our program in major theatre markets nation-wide - New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles. Advance registration is required by Monday, January 28, 2013.

  • High School Theatre Festival Auditions:  If you plan to audition at one of the high school theatre festivals listed on our schedule, simply follow the guidelines of the auditions program provided by the festival organizers. At most festivals our faculty representatives will post call-backs for one-on-one interviews following the auditions.

How to prepare your audition and portfolio

Acting Auditions: Prepare two contrasting, memorized one-minute monologues from modern plays. If you are comfortable with Shakespeare, we would appreciate seeing 20-30 lines of a verse monologue or soliloquy. This can substitute for one of your contemporary monologues. The audition may also include improvisation and movement.

Music Theatre Auditions:  Prepare a one-minute monologue from a modern play, and sing 16-32 bars of two contrasting songs from a Broadway musical (memorized). You will need to provide your own recorded musical accompaniment at the National Unified Auditions. For on-campus auditions, please bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. You will also be asked to learn and perform a short dance combination and complete a vocal and piano sight-reading test.

 Portfolio Reviews:

  • Designers, technicians, and stage managers should present examples of work in the form of photographs, prompt-scripts, slides, and/or drawings of productions on which you have worked. Examples of related skills (painting, drawing, sewing, handwork, woodworking, etc.) are also helpful.
  • Arts administration candidates should present a comprehensive resume, writing samples, and any photographs or examples of completed projects.

What to expect in the interview:

All prospective students will interview with members of the faculty to assess skills and interests. The interview is an informal conversation that allows us a chance to get to know you and to discover what we have to offer each other.
