Course Title:

3 credits in VUSM 293 or LASP 200: Introduction to Latin American Studies (Taught in English)


3 credits in SPAN 286: Introduction to Latin America Studies (Taught in Spanish)


VUSM 100 equivalent or with instructor's permission. Acceptance in the Cuba study abroad program.

Spanish language is not required, but it would be useful.

Program Description:

This is an opportunity to experience first hand the reality of the Cuban people through their culture, economy, public health system, social and political reality, popular religiosity, and history. This program is designed to offer an interdisciplinary perspective by bringing in course readings and discussions on this Spanish Caribbean island, in which the living is a very different social, economic, and political structure, compared to the United States.

Cities Visited:

Havana, Matanzas, and Varadero, Cuba

May 20 - May 30, 2018

Estimated Cost:

$3,975-$4,475 per student

*Based on a realistic estimate of participants. Fees may change based on final enrollment and/or exchange rate fluctuation.

Costs includes international airfare, accommodations, in-country transportation, cultural activities, international health insurance, and most meals.

Cost does not include passport fees, vaccination fee's, personal spending money, some meals or trip/travel insurance.
