Kay Shriver and Sr. Laverne Ramaeker: Friends Give to Viterbo

ShriverEducation has always been very important to long-time professional colleagues Kay Shriver, Ph.D. (left) and Laverne Ramaeker, Ph.D., FSPA (right). Now, thanks to an endowed scholarship they have established at Viterbo University, they will be sharing that love for education with students for countless years to come.

The Shriver/Ramaeker Health Sciences Scholarship will provide funds to a Viterbo student or students majoring in a health science field. “Helping people who want to further their education is our way of giving back,” said Shriver.

“Education has always been a paramount goal of ours,” said Ramaeker. “We’re career minded individuals, and being students has always been a good time in our lives.”

The scholarship is a wonderful legacy for two people who value education so highly, said Gary Klein, Viterbo’s vice president for institutional advancement.

“This endowed scholarship will live on in perpetuity, helping to provide a quality, liberal arts, Catholic education to students who might not otherwise be able to afford it,” Klein said. “Endowment plays a crucial role in keeping Viterbo affordable and accessible.”

Drs. Shriver and Ramaeker have been friends for 40 years, ever since meeting during their careers at St. Francis Hospital.
