Humanities Symposium Explores Immigration

BaievImmigration, a topic generating considerable debate here and abroad, was the theme of the annual humanities symposium in February.

“The symposium was a wonderful opportunity for Viterbo community members and the general public to hear about the various aspects of global immigration,” said Bill Reese, symposium committee chairperson. “The symposium served to heighten our sensitivities as well as challenge our opinions on what it means to be an American in the 21st century.”

Keynote speakers Chechnyan trauma surgeon Dr. Khassan Baiev and Rita Simon, professor of public affairs at American University in Washington, D.C., were joined by a host of participants who shared their first-hand experiences with immigration.
