WHC Grant Brings Authors to Campus

Faculty member Grant Smith, English, received a Wisconsin Humanities Council (WHC) grant to bring young adult authors Chris Crowe and Helen Frost to La Crosse and to create reading groups for young adult literature in three local communities.

Crowe addressed schools in Bangor and Sparta and a reading group in West Salem. Frost also spoke to local students and on the Viterbo campus.

“The response from the teachers at these schools has been just wonderful,” Smith said. “What they found out was that this literature is great stuff.”

The WHC grant is for $2,000, which is matched by Viterbo. Smith also solicited other donations to help make these events possible.
