Darrell S. Larson Education Scholarship

The purpose of the Darrell S. Larson Education Scholarship will be to assist financially an education student in his/her junior and/or senior year.  The student must be majoring in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education (Grades 2-8).  The student must be in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need. Preferably, the student should be an undergraduate but the Selection Committee may award the scholarship to a graduate student in Education.

It is the desire of the benefactor that the recipient(s) intend to teach in elementary or middle school for at least two years after graduation.  The recipient should consider this a moral obligation scholarship and should be repaid if the student does not teach for at least two years after graduation.

Ethel Robinson Meehan Education Scholarship

The recipient of the scholarship shall be a junior or senior in the Viterbo University Bachelor of Science in Education program with preparation in Middle/Secondary Licensure or a student in the Post Baccalaureate Teacher Licensure Program. The recipient must be in good academic standing with the university and have demonstrated financial need.  The scholarship is renewable for one year, with intention to provide assistance for student teaching.

One-half of the available money annually will be used to award a new scholarship and the other half for renewal of last year’s award. Students must submit an application and essay to the education department faculty.  The department will submit a ranking of the three (3) new applicant finalists to be considered as fitting the criteria for financial need. The new recipient shall be chosen by the VU Financial Aid Scholarship Officer, using the ranking of the department and then considering financial need criteria. The education department will also validate the renewal of the former recipient’s scholarship. (Note: If there is no renewal in a given year, the other half of the available money can be awarded to a new recipient; however, only one of those awardees would be eligible for renewal the following year, or the renewal award could be split.)
