Forfeit Deposit Policy

In order to participate in any intramural team league, all teams are required to turn in a $40 Forfeit Deposit.

The Forfeit Deposit must be turned in prior to league play.  An intramural team is officially registered for their respective sport league once the minimum number of males and females are accepted to the team on IMleagues.com, the $40 Forfeit Deposit has been turned in, and the Captain's Quiz has been passed. The Western Wellness Center Member Services Desk and the Mathy Center Welcome Desk will accept forfeit deposits during operating hours.  Cash (exact change only) and checks are accepted. Check can be made out to the Mathy Center or Western Wellness Center.

Deposit Pick Up

At the completion of the intramural sport league, if the team does not forfeit a competition during the course of the season, the $40 Forfeit Deposit will be returned. Forfeit Deposits must be picked up by the intramural team by the dates listed below"

  • Fall Season 1: By the registration deadline day for Fall Season 2.
  • Fall Season 2: By the final day of finals week.
  • Spring Season 1: By the registration deadline day for Spring Season 2
  • Spring Season 2: By the final day of finals week

If the Forfeit Deposit has not been picked up within this time period, the $40 Forfeit Deposit will be kept by the Western/Viterbo intramural program.

Forfeit or team removal from the league

If the team forfeits or is removed from the league (removed by choice or at the discretion of the recreational sports staff), the $40 Forfeit Deposit will be kept by the Western/Viterbo Intramural program.

Number of Forfeits

Each team will be allowed a certain number of forfeits before the team is removed from the league.  Any team that forfeits the equivalent to one night of league play, will lose their forfeit deposit. (i.e. if the maximum number of games scheduled for a night is two and a team forfeits two games regardless if it is in one night or two nights, they will lose their deposit.) If that team forfeits the equivalent of another night of play, they will be eliminated for the remainder of the season.

Forfeit vs Default

Any team knowing in advance that they will be unable to play a regularly scheduled game has the opportunity to default. If a team defaults, they will receive a loss in the standings, an “Exceptional Sports” sportsmanship rating, and does not count as a forfeit. In order for a team to default, the team captain must contact the Intramural Sports Office or league coordinator by 5 p.m. on the day prior to their contest. Otherwise, it is considered a forfeit.  If a team forfeits, they will receive a loss in the standings, a “Needs Improvement” sportsmanship rating, and any team that forfeits the equivalent to one night of league play, will lose their forfeit deposit. (i.e. if the maximum number of games scheduled for a night is three and a team forfeits three games regardless if it is in one night or three nights, they will lose their deposit.) If that team forfeits the equivalent of another night of play, they will be eliminated for the remainder of the season.
