Wisconsin #316 Reading Teacher Licensure
Required Course Work

Program requirements must be completed within seven (7) years of application. 

Requirements for the Wisconsin Reading Teacher 316 License include:

  1. Acceptance into the Viterbo University Reading Licensure Program.
  2. State issued teaching license.
  3. A minimum of two years successful regular classroom (non-substitute) teaching experience is required for state licensure.  You may apply to the program and begin coursework before this requirement for licensure is fulfilled.
  4. The following courses:
EDUC 605 Inclusion of Students with Special Needs 3 Graduate Credits
EDUC 640 Balanced Literacy in the Reading Program 3 Graduate Credits
EDUC 580 Children's & Adolescents' Literature in the Reading Program 3 Graduate Credits
EDUC 681 Emergent Literacy PK–3 3 Graduate Credits
EDUC 650 Content Reading and Study Strategies 3 Graduate Credits
EDUC 529 Assessment and Treatment of Reading Difficulties (Prerequisite: all reading courses) 3 Graduate Credits
EDUC 683 (formerly 789)
 
Practicum:  The practicum is due 12 weeks after the last class session of EDUC 529. 1 Graduate Credit

5.  Reading Test - Act 166   NEW DPI required test beginning January 1, 2014     http://www.wi.nesinc.com/ 

6. A completed  Assessment Portfolio must be submitted and scored before endorsement is given. Portfolio must be scored "basic" or "proficient" in each category/section.  NOTE: Failure to satisfactorily complete the Licensure Portfolio could delay endorsement of the licensure application. Resubmission of deficient sections may be required.

7. Upon completion of the program the student is required to fill out a Special Recognition Award application.  Please fill out the form and send it to the program Coordinator. This form is needed for transcripts to reflect a new license.
