The Iowa Board of Educational Examiners will change requirements for the Reading Endorsement effective September 1, 2007. The courses listed are the new requirements, which have increased to 24 credits.
Reading endorsement courses may be taken without enrolling in a Master of Arts in Education program; however, application to the Reading Endorsement Program is required.
The Reading Endorsement Program may be part of the Master of Arts in Education degree. These courses can be used as electives.
Individuals who want to complete a K–8 or 5–12 reading endorsement or a K–12 reading specialist must complete an application to the Viterbo University-Iowa Center Reading Endorsement Program. Please contact gradiowa@viterbo.edu or call 515-224-4811 or 1-888-235-2200 for an application or complete an online application. There is an application fee of $50. This fee is waived if you have applied for or are enrolled in the Viterbo University Master of Arts in Education degree program.
Up to 6 equivalent undergraduate credits, if requested by the applicant, may be transferred. A determination will be made for any course work equivalency credits after an application packet, including official transcripts, has been received.
