About

Emily Vanderfleet earned a BA in Mathematics and Physics from Carthage College and a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering with a concentration in Computational Science and Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research interests include atomic scale simulations using density functional theory as well as engineering education. She developed the Engineering program at Viterbo University, which launched in Fall 2018, and regularly teaches Engineering Success, Introductory Physics Courses, Design Graphics and Programming, Thermodynamics, Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Design Capstone 1 and 2. She is particularly interested in collaborating with industry partners to design innovative curriculum elements and partnering with other disciplines on campus to tackle projects that positively impact the community (For more information about these projects, see HAWK WORKS).
