English 455, Junior Colloquium, provides upper division students an opportunity to hone their critical skills by focusing closely on a subject in literary study.  For this Fall, 2007 Colloquium, we will inquire into the work of two young artists: Miranda July and Tao Lin.  Each works successfully in multiple genres and media--Lin in fiction and poetry, July in film, performance, and fiction writing--and each works with and against audience expectations to create their artistic effects.  As we examine their work closely, we will inquire into the condition of the young artist: how does the new artist adapt to the histories that come before him or her?  How does the successful young artist create a space for him or herself within the traditions of their art forms?

William Stobb teaches the course.  He is available by email at westobb@viterbo.edu, by phone at 796-3486, or in person at his office, Murphy Center 538.  For office hours, questions, or further information see William Stobb's homepage.
