English 211 introduces the art and craft of writing poetry and short narratives, both fictional and non-fictional.  Students get instruction in the writing process: attention, invention, drafting, developing, re-visioning, editing and finishing.  Key concepts include character, scene, progression of action, word choice, the poetic line, the image, the figure, the form, the leap, and the landing.  By the end of the semester, students have a sense of the art of seeing the world as a writer.  They also have a portfolio of finished works, semi-finished works, and ideas for future works.

William Stobb teaches the course.  He is available by email at westobb@viterbo.edu, by phone at 796-3486, or in person at his office, Murphy Center 538.  For office hours, questions, or further information see William Stobb's homepage.
