Freshmen Students

New freshman students are required to attend the orientation program called, V-Hawk Orientation Days.  V-Hawk Orientation Days is a weekend full of socializing, academic success tips, discussions about life at Viterbo, and other helpful presentations. These activities are designed to help new freshmen become better acquainted with the La Crosse community, Viterbo’s campus, and staff.  Research shows, students who attend orientation are more successful in college.  It is for that reason that attendance is required throughout the weekend.

The most popular component of V-Hawk Orientation Days is the orientation team. This team is led by two orientation leaders, experienced students trained to help new students meet other students and to assist new students with any questions or concerns. Oftentimes the most lasting friendships are formed during the first days of the collegiate experience, at orientation.

This program is separate from STAR registration and occurs Friday, August 23, Saturday, August 24, and Sunday, August 25, 2013.  An invitation will be mailed to all registered, full-time, new freshmen students in July of 2013.  A detailed schedule of activities will be given to students on the first day of the program, Friday, August 23.

Transfer Students, Student Veterans, and Non-Traditional Aged-First Year Students

In planning Viterbo’s Orientation for transfer and non-traditional students, we recognize that not every student is a recent graduate of high school.  Therefore, we offer options to students who have already accumulated college credits or who have life experience to lend to their upcoming classroom experience.  Although completing Orientation is mandatory, options are available.

Orientation is in addition to class registration. Detailed information regarding these orientation options will be mailed to students in the summer following class registration. The student will then be asked to RSVP for at least one of the options.

  • OPTION 1 Attend the Freshmen Program: V-Hawk Orientation Days Aug. 23, 24, through 25, 2013.

  • OPTION 2—Attend the V-Hawk Orientation Days program but participate in the TRANSFER TRACK, a 2-day program on Aug. 23 through Aug. 24.
We recommend this program option for Student Veterans as a short Veteran's Orientation Program will occur prior to this option. The Veterans Orientation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Aug. 23. However, student Veterans may attend the Veteran's Orientation program in addition to any of the other three options.

  • OPTION 3—Attend an Ice Cream Social and Student Life Resource Roundtable on September 3, 2013 at 4 p.m.

  • OPTION 4—Complete Orientation through an online course in Moodle.
