Congratulations Viterbo Dietetics Class of 2013!
The field of nutrition and dietetics has something to offer all consumers of health care. As a Registered Dietitian (RD), a vast array of opportunities are open to you in the food service and the health care industry. The jobs with the most potential for advancement are closed to "nutritionists" who are not registered dietitians.
Consider a profession that is more than a job. Dietetics is a career with growing potential. The U.S. Department of Labor projects that employment of dietitians is expected to grow as fast as average through 2010.. Consider a career with a competitive starting salary. Most Viterbo dietetics graduates earn $35,000 - $40,000 in their first year of employment, and recent statistics show that 100 percent of our dietetics graduates find employment in the field within nine months of graduation.
Nutrition programs are not all alike. To be eligible to take the national exam required to become a registered dietitian, students must complete both classroom requirements and requisites in clinical or supervised practice. While most dietetics programs require a fifth year internship to fulfill the supervised practice requirements, our program combines classroom learning and supervised practice into a four year program.
Only about 50 of the dietetics programs nationwide offer this unique combination - and the guarantee that you will be prepared for the national exam upon graduation. This factor provides a considerable financial "jump start" for your career.
The Viterbo dietetics program offers a personal learning experience for every student. Typically, classes with supervised practice hours have less than fifteen students. This student-teacher ratio is ideal for establishing relationships with instructors who are all registered dietitians possessing a wealth of experience in the field. Support and direction for assignments, course selections and career opportunities are always available from Viterbo faculty and staff.
