Business Career and Internship Fair Tuesday
The Viterbo career services office appreciates the assistance of faculty in promoting the Business Career and Internship Fair to be held Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 1–3:30 p.m. in the FAC lobby. The fair is not just for business majors. Employers actively seek out the skills that liberal arts majors possess such as the eight NACE Career Readiness Competencies.
As of today, 16 prominent local businesses have registered to attend. To ensure that Viterbo students are adequately prepared to meet with the employers, career services has provided some resources to help both faculty and students make the best of the fair. The main points, in summary, are:
- Encourage students to research companies of interest. Two resources available on our website for company research include Glass Door and Vault.
- Help students to understand what “appropriate dress” means. On the day of the fair, consider modeling appropriate career fair clothes by wearing interview or business casual attire. Any student may pick up a $25 gift card to Goodwill in the career services office.
- While resumes are not required, students should be prepared to introduce themselves to the recruiters. Encourage them to create a 30-second “elevator speech” that summarizes their background and interests.
- Consider creating an assignment that requires participation in the fair. A list of questions for students to ask of recruiters can be found at http://www.viterbo.edu/career-services/events
The career services staff is happy to speak to any class to deliver a quick tutorial on preparing for the fair.
