VITERBO UNIVERSITY TO PRESENT 9 TO 5, THE MUSICAL OCT. 13–15
LA CROSSE, Wis. – Viterbo University theatre and music theatre students will present 9 to 5, The Musical Friday, Oct. 13–Sunday, Oct. 15 in the Viterbo University Fine Arts Center Main Theatre.
Based on the hit movie from 1980, 9 to 5, The Musical is the hilarious and heartwarming story of three women as they explore friendship, revenge, and empowerment in the Rolodex era. This musical comedy features the blockbuster hit title song and a score of 18 original numbers by multiple Grammy Award™-winning songwriter Dolly Parton.
“9 to 5 is iconic in many ways,” said Matt Campbell, the Viterbo faculty member who is directing the production. “It was Dolly Parton’s first movie, a big box office success, and the title song was a huge hit. 9 to 5, The Musical has everything the movie has and more. It is a Broadway musical filled with big production numbers with plenty of heart and laughs. Audiences are bound to be entertained throughout this whole show.”
Campbell is joined by fellow faculty member Nancy Allen, who is serving as the music director, Shane Rhoades, who is doing the choreography, and set designer Frank Ludwig. Patrick Strain is the guest lighting designer, and Viterbo student Caitlin Fanning is the costume designer.
Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13–14 and 2 p.m. Oct. 15. An Arts in Context discussion will be held immediately following the Oct. 14 performance.
This performance is part of Viterbo University’s Bright Star season and is sponsored by US Bank. Kicks 106.3 FM is the media sponsor.
9 to 5, The Musical features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick. It is based on the 20th Century Fox motion picture 9 to 5. 9 to 5, The Musical was originally produced on Broadway by Robert Greenblatt in April 2009.
