VITERBO UNIVERSITY ONE-OF-A-KIND CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES CONCLUDES WITH SONATAS FROM 1917: THE MUSIC OF DEBUSSY AND RESPIGHI APRIL 8
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The 2016-17 Viterbo University One-of-a-Kind Chamber Music Series concludes Saturday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall with Sonatas from 1917: The Music of Debussy and Respighi, featuring violinist Nancy Oliveros and pianist Mary Ellen Haupert.
The concert will celebrate the series’ media sponsor, Wisconsin Public Radio, which was founded in 1917 and is celebrating their centennial. Wisconsin Public Radio will feature the One-of-a-Kind Chamber Music Series and music from the April concert in a special two-hour live broadcast of The Midday with Norman Gilliland March 31.
“This is an exciting opportunity not only to celebrate Wisconsin Public Radio, which has been a sponsor of the series for several years, but to also highlight the wonderful music shared in our community through the One-of-a-Kind Chamber Music Series,” said Mary Ellen Haupert, artistic director for the series.
The radio broadcast will also feature pianist Mark Tollefsen, soprano Ann Elise Schoenecker, pianist Judy Stafslien, and baritone Daniel Johnson-Wilmot, who teach in the music department at Viterbo University and have performed on the series. Timothy Schorr, professor of music and dean of the College of Arts and Letters at Viterbo University, will be a guest speaker.
The April 8 concert will feature Jean Sibelius’ Five Pieces for Violin and Piano, Op. 81, Claude Debussy’s Sonata in G Minor, and Ottorino Respighi’s Sonata in B Minor.
Though this is the final concert of the 2016-17 season, the 2017-18 season will be announced by the Viterbo University Fine Arts Center May 3. Season tickets will be available for the One-of-a-Kind Chamber Music Series and other performing arts series at Viterbo beginning May 3. A full list of events will be available on the Fine Arts Center web page at that time.
