VITERBO AWARDED 3M VISION GRANT FOR MATHY CENTER PROJECT

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Viterbo University was awarded a $35,410 3M Vision Grant for its three-year project entitled Healthy Bodies, Strong Minds: Teaching to Learn at the Amie L. Mathy Center for Recreation and Education.

Funded by 3M Corporation, the program recognizes, supports, and encourages innovation at private colleges and universities by providing start-up funding to launch such ventures. A critical aspect of the award is the opportunity to discover new ways of learning that connects to the larger community. 3M received 40 applications and awarded four grants this year.

The Mathy Center houses a Boys and Girls Club and Viterbo’s athletic and recreational facilities, providing unprecedented educational and mentoring opportunities for the club members and university students.

The grant will be used to establish three new programs – Open Your Mind: New Ways of Thinking, Printmaking Portfolio Exchange, and Foods, Fun, and Fitness Club. Each will involve Viterbo students, along side faculty, working closely with Boys and Girls Club members.
