WOMEN WIN XCEL ENERGY SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDY SCIENCE AT VITERBO UNIVERSITY
LA CROSSE, Wis. – Melissa Klecker of Hastings, Minn. and Marin Williams of Bemidji, Minn. have each been named the recipient of a $2,500 Xcel Energy for Women in Science Scholarship at Viterbo University.
Klecker, a graduate of Hastings High School, will major in math this fall. Williams, a graduate of Bemidji High School, will study biology. Prospective freshman women with at least a 3.5 GPA and score of 23 on the ACT who intend to major in science or math were eligible for the scholarship.
Women are underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and math across the nation, and Viterbo is committed to supporting women in science. This is the third year the scholarship has been offered, which is made possible by a grant from the Xcel Energy Foundation. The foundation supports math, science, and economic education programs for students in both urban and rural communities throughout the Xcel Energy service territory.
