VITERBO UNIVERSITY TO HOST ASSOCIATION OF FRANCISCAN
COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES 2012 NATIONAL SUMMER SYMPOSIUM JUNE 12–14;
REGISTRATION OPEN
LA
CROSSE, Wis. – More than 200 participants from the 22 Franciscan
universities in the U.S. are expected to attend the Association of Franciscan
Colleges and Universities (AFCU) 2012 National Summer Symposium “Franciscan
Leadership: Serving, Learning, and Leading” at Viterbo University Tuesday, June
12–Thursday, June 14.
This is the first time in Viterbo’s history that the university is
hosting this national event. Included in the list of participants are several
university presidents from throughout the country.
“We look forward to sharing the beauty of La Crosse with participants
and to contributing to the economic benefits such a conference brings to the
city and the surrounding communities,” said Viterbo President Rick Artman. “It
will also be a great opportunity to showcase Viterbo’s focus on and commitment
to Franciscan values and servant leadership. Viterbo is proud to host this
national meeting.”
Keynote speakers for the event will be Kent Keith, CEO of the Greenleaf
Center for Servant Leadership; Aurelie Hagstrom, associate professor of theology
at Providence College, the author of a number of widely acclaimed books,
including her latest work The Emerging Laity:
Vocation, Mission, and Spirituality; and Tom
Thibodeau, director of the Master of Arts in Servant Leadership program at
Viterbo University.
The symposium will focus on ways people are able to
serve the communities in which they live and work, to learn together about the
communities and needs, and to prepare to lead for the sake of the common good.
The event will feature many presenters, discussion groups, and breakout
sessions.
This year’s symposium will also
include a special student track dedicated to presentations by and for
undergraduate students.
“We are very excited about the
quality of this symposium and we would like to invite members of the La Crosse
community to attend,” said Georgia Christensen, FSPA, chair of the committee
planning the event.
Registration for the event is now
open. To register or to learn more about the symposium, visit the AFCU website
