LEGENDARY
COACH BENNETT, DISTRICT ATTORNEY MARK THIBODEAU TO DISCUSS MORAL LEADERSHIP AT
VITERBO UNIVERSITY APRIL 16
LA
CROSSE, Wis. – Legendary Wisconsin basketball coach Dick Bennett and Mark
Thibodeau, the recently retired longest serving district attorney in Wisconsin,
will be at Viterbo University Monday, April 16 to share stories while
discussing “Moral Leadership from the Court and Courtroom.”
The
7 p.m. presentation will be held in San Damiano Chapel as part of the annual
Paula Ripple Comin Endowed Lecture Series. The event is free and open to the
public.
According
to Tom Thibodeau, distinguished professor of Servant Leadership who organized
the event, both Bennett, the coach, and Mark Thibodeau, who was district
attorney for Adams County, share a number of traits. “Both of these men have a
long history of service to the State of Wisconsin in the professions of sport
and law. They intend to share stories of how they had to follow their moral
compass throughout their long careers.”
Bennett’s
career path is well known to Wisconsinites. In the 1970s, he led Eau Claire
Memorial High School to the state title game. In the 1980s, he led the University
of Wisconsin-Stevens Point to an NAIA title game. In the early 1990s he brought the University of
Wisconsin-Green Bay to its first three NCAA
tournament appearances. And in 2000,
after five years at the flagship University of Wisconsin, he took the Badgers
to the Final Four.
Meanwhile,
Thibodeau found similar success in the courtroom, arguing a number of high
profile cases over the course of 33 years while he managed a growing caseload
in a profession that see many leave much earlier in their careers.
“The best district attorneys never forget there’s an awesome power
and responsibility that goes with the office,” Thibodeau said.
