“CARDINAL AVERY DULLES: A THEOLOGIAN FOR ALL SEASONS” PRESENTATION AT VITERBO UNIVERSITY NOV. 22
LA CROSSE, Wis. – Monsignor Bernard McGarty will present “Cardinal Avery Dulles: A Theologian for All Seasons” at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22 in the Viterbo University Fine Arts Center Main Theatre.
The event is free and open to the public. Msgr. McGarty will be joined by religious faculty members from Viterbo University and Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, who will provide their insights into Cardinal Dulles and his contributions.
During his lifetime, Cardinal Dulles earned a reputation as the most distinguished American theologian of the 20th century. A prolific author, Cardinal Dulles, who died in 2008, wrote 34 books and 800 articles. He was a great proponent of ecumenism, and he was the first American priest to be named a Cardinal. He was also the primary U.S. authority on the documents of Vatican II.
“Cardinal Dulles is highly regarded in ecumenical circles,” Msgr. McGarty said. “He created an enormous body of work that is looked to with great respect for the immense knowledge it provides.”
Msgr. McGarty holds the title of Visiting Scholar in Ecumenical Studies at Viterbo and has given previous lectures on Catholic relations with Jewish, Orthodox, Lutheran, Episcopal, and Islamic faith traditions as well as other topics pertaining to spiritual and contemporary issues.
