Celebrate Franciscan Fest Sept. 19

The Franciscan Spirituality Center invites the Viterbo community and the general public to celebrate Franciscan Fest Saturday, Sept. 19 at St. Rose Convent and Assisi Courtyard.

Franciscan Fest is designed to celebrate the medieval, earth-centered life of St. Francis and St. Clare and to honor the influence of Franciscan spirituality in the La Crosse area. There is a special discount for Viterbo community members—tickets for employees are $2 per person or $5 per family. Admission is free for Viterbo students.

The day will begin with harp music by Malinda Gerke, FSPA, at 10:15 a.m. in the Maria Angelorum Chapel followed by a presentation by Franciscan scholar and author Kathleen Warren, OSF, and a performance by the St. Rose Schola.

The medieval village in Assisi Courtyard will open to trumpets and song at noon. The village will feature a town square, craft vendors, numerous demonstrations from the era, food vendors, and music. Viterbo’s own, including Rick Artman, Pat Kerrigan, John Schroeder, Georgia Christensen, and Judy Talbott will play roles of key figures from the time, including Anthony of Padua and Brother Illuminato.

Franciscan Fest will end at 3 p.m. The entire Coulee Region community is invited to attend this unique celebration of Franciscan Heritage.
