Chief Justice to Speak at Viterbo May
LA CROSSE, Wis. - Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Shirley S. Abrahamson will visit the Viterbo campus Monday, May 1 to speak with students and a media panel about the important legal issues of the day.
The event, which coincides with Law Day, will be held in the FAC Main Theatre from 10-11 a.m. Free tickets to the event are available at the MC reception desk.
The audience will be treated to a unique glimpse inside the legal mind of one of Wisconsin’s most prominent and powerful judges. Appointed in 1976, Abrahamson became the first woman to serve on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. She was elected to 10-year terms in 1979, 1989, and 1999, and has served as chief justice since 1996.
Her appearance is sponsored by the Viterbo history and sociology, social work, and criminal justice departments and various La Crosse organizations in celebration of the city’s sesquicentennial.
