VITERBO UNIVERSITY RECEIVES $20,000 GRANT TO DEVELOP NEW INSURANCE AND RISK MANAGEMENT MAJOR
LA CROSSE, Wis. – Viterbo University has been named the recipient of a $20,000 2009–2010 Insurance Education College and Community Partnership grant by the Wisconsin Foundation for Independent Colleges, Inc.
The grant will be used to develop an insurance and risk management major in the Dahl School of Business. Viterbo is in the preliminary stages of planning the major, and was one of only four Wisconsin colleges and universities to receive a grant. According to Tom Knothe, dean of the Dahl School of Business, Wisconsin is headquarters to a number of major insurance providers and the new major is intended to address a shortage of professionals to work in this field.
The grants are made possible by financial support from State Farm Insurance, West Bend Mutual Insurance, Markel American Insurance, and Johnson Insurance, with additional funding provided by the Wisconsin Department of Labor.
