TWO-TIME TEACHER OF THE YEAR TO SPEAK AT VITERBO JULY 15

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- Area teachers, school administrators, and parents are invited to join the more than 500 Viterbo University graduate students on campus in attending “Reaching the Untouchables,” an address by two-time California teacher of the year Erin Gruwell, at Viterbo University at 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 15.

In addition to her teacher of the year honors, she also has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Morning America, and the Rosie O'Donnell Show and is the author of the book Freedom Writers' Diary.

“Gruwell has talked with many educators about how to work with students who are considered unmotivated,” said Shirley Frick, director of the Graduate Studies in Education program at Viterbo. “There's a message - don't lose hope and stay connected.”
