VITERBO WELCOMES THE LEGENDARY GLENN MILLER ORCHESTRA NOV. 2
LA CROSSE, Wis.-- Experience a night of big-band swing as the Glenn Miller Orchestra graces the Viterbo stage Tuesday, Nov. 2.
One of the most successful of all dance bands in the Swing era of the 1930s and ‘40s, the Glenn Miller Orchestra has a matchless string of hit records, a repertoire that exceeds 1,700 compositions, and a vibrant sound that perpetuates a large fan base.
After Glenn Miller’s death in 1944, the Miller estate authorized the formation of the present Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1956 under the direction of drummer Ray McKinley. Today the 19-member band continues to play many of the original Miller arrangements that keep audience members, young and old, on the edge of their seats. In addition to classical pieces, such as Moonlight Serenade and String of Pearls, the Glenn Miller Orchestra carefully selects newer tunes that lend themselves naturally to the Miller style.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra is sponsored by Holiday Inn & Suites and supported, in part, by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin. Performance time is 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre. Tickets are $19. For more information, contact the Viterbo Fine Arts Center Box Office at 608-796-3100
