VITERBO STUDENTS WIN XCEL SCHOLARSHIP FOR WOMEN IN SCIENCE
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- Mabel Canton High School graduate Melissa Glenna of Lanesboro, Minn. and Brookfield East High School graduate Emily Lucchesi of Brookfield, Wis. have each been named the recipient of a $2,500 Xcel Energy for Women in Science scholarships at Viterbo University.
Viterbo created the scholarships with a $5,000 grant from the Xcel Energy Foundation. Incoming freshmen women with at least a 3.5 GPA and a score of 23 on the ACT test who are majoring in chemistry or math were eligible for the scholarship.
Women are underrepresented in the science, technology, engineering, and math disciplines at Viterbo and throughout the nation and Viterbo is committed to supporting women in science. The Xcel Energy Foundation typically funds “scholarship and intern programs focused in mathematics, science, and technical or environmental areas of study as they relate to the energy industry.”
