VITERBO STUDENTS WIN AWARDS AT STATE AUDITIONS

LA CROSSE, Wis.­Viterbo students made a strong showing at this year’s National Association of Teachers in Singing state auditions last weekend at Lawrence University.

Senior Suzanne Flater, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, placed first in the college division, her second title in that category. She placed second as a college sophomore. In high school, she won her division as well. Flater is a student of Daniel Johnson-Wilmot, a Viterbo music professor.

Junior Carrie Knudsen Hendricksen of River Falls, placed first in the junior college women division.
Joseph Schermann of Plymouth, Minn., took first in the lower college music theatre division.

In all, Viterbo University had 13 finalists at the audition, the second highest at the competition. In addition, Johnson-Wilmot had eight students in the competition, the most of any teacher in the state. Five of his students were winners at state, where more than 425 singers from colleges and high schools throughout Wisconsin competed.
