VITERBO UNIVERSITY PRESENTS AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS DEC. 6-7
LA CROSSE, Wis.Viterbo University will present the classic Gian Carlo Menotti operetta Amahl and the Night Visitors Saturday, Dec. 6, and Sunday, Dec. 7.
Amahl, a peasant shepherd, tells his mother about a huge star he has seen in the night sky and claims that three kings will be visiting their home. His mother, knowing Amahl’s reputation as a habitual liar, grows angry with him. When the kings do arrive she invites them in and offers gifts from the villagers. Later that night, she tries to steal the gold from one of the kings so that she can help her child. When she is caught, the kings tell her to keep it, because the king they will visit needs nothing but love to rule his kingdom. She returns what she has taken, launching the plot into a miracle that makes the spirit of Christmas come to life.
Amahl and the Night Visitors is part of the Ronald McDonald Arts for Young America Series and is sponsored by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Wisconsin, Inc.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children under 12. Performance times are at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7. For more information, contact the Viterbo University Box Office at 796-3100.
