BRIGHT STAR MUSICIAN TO GIVE PIANO MASTERCLASS
LA CROSSE, Wis.— Angela Cheng, a world-famous pianist in town to perform for the Viterbo Bright Star Season, will be providing professional instruction to Viterbo students during a piano masterclass on Wednesday, March 20 from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.
Cheng has been hailed by critics for her expert musicianship, subtleties of tone, elegance, and grace. Cheng received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Julliard School and her Master of Music degree from Indiana University. One of Canada’s most gifted pianists, Cheng was the first Canadian to win the prestigious Montreal International Piano Competition in 1988. Among her other awards, she was given the Medal of Excellence in Salzburg in 1991 for her outstanding interpretations of Mozart. Her debut recording of two Mozart concerti with Mario Bernardi and the CBC Vancouver Orchestra received glowing reviews. She is a frequent recitalist and chamber music collaborator who has been presented in venues throughout the world.
During the masterclass, which is free and open to the public, students will be playing pieces by Debussy, Ravel, and Bartok.
Cheng will perform during the Bright Star Season on Thursday, March 21 with the Vogler Quartet on the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre stage. Tickets for that performance are $27/21. To order tickets, contact the Viterbo University Box Office at 608-796-3100.
