LA CROSSE, Wis. – Wisconsin Public Radio’s Joy Cardin will open Viterbo University’s 2008–09 Leadership at Noon Series Friday, Oct. 17 in room 107 of the D.B. and Marge Reinhart Center on campus.

Cardin, host of a daily Wisconsin Public Radio show, will discuss the ethics of responsible journalism, an issue that has drawn increased scrutiny in this year of a presidential election.

The Leadership at Noon Series features local business people discussing the crucial components of a successful business.

“Once again this year we have an opportunity to bring college students and community members into dialogue with successful leaders who are willing to share their insights and experiences,” said Rick Kyte, director of the D.B. Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership at Viterbo University.

The series continues:

  • Monday, Nov. 17 with Dick Zierke, owner of Pla-Mor Lanes. Purchased by Dick and Lori Zierke in 1999, Pla-Mor Lanes is one of the leading bowling centers in the area, serving 900 league bowlers each week. Zierke, who is also the president-elect of the Bowling Centers Association of Wisconsin, attributes their success to “customer service and a love of bowling.”
  • Tuesday, Jan. 27 with Dick Lommen and Rick Lommen of Courtesy Corporation. Began 40 years ago with a single restaurant, Courtesy Corporation has grown to include over 35 McDonald’s restaurants and 2,500 employees, making it one of the largest employers in the region.
  • Tuesday, March 24 with Susan Christopherson of Fowler & Hammer. Fowler & Hammer General Contractors was founded in 1963 and today is one of the leading construction companies in the region. Local projects include the Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse stadium, and the Franciscan Skemp Hospital expansion and the new Holmen clinic.

All events on the schedule will be held from noon–1 p.m. in the Reinhart Center and are free and open to the public. Audience members are welcome to bring their own lunch or purchase a box lunch for $5. The Leadership at Noon Series is sponsored by the D.B. Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership and the Dahl School of Business at Viterbo University.
