VITERBO HIGHLIGHTS POP CULTURE IN NEW PERFORMANCE SERIES
LA CROSSE, Wis.—New stars are lighting up the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre stage this fall as Viterbo unveils an amazing new series of performances called NexStar.
Featuring four different events during this first season, NexStar is a distinctly different series from Viterbo’s continuing and popular Bright Star Season. The NexStar performances are influenced by pop culture and offer comedy, music, and theatre from a variety of top performing artists from around the globe.
"This is an exciting new venture and a new type of programming for Viterbo. In fact, NexStar is the perfect way for us to offer a taste of pop culture to the La Crosse community since we are a large facility, but not big enough to host major rock or country shows," said Michael Ranscht, Director of Programs and Operations.
"We hope NexStar will entertain and broaden the arts experience for our audience," he added.
All performances will be held in the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre. The 2000-01 NexStar events are:
- Second City National Touring Company, Tuesday, Sept. 26, 7:30 p.m.—Second City will provide an evening of improvisational comedy right here in La Crosse. Known for nurturing the talents of some of the best comics and comic acts in circulation, they’ll allow audiences to experience an irreverent, hilarious, intelligent, and thought-provoking evening.
- SoVoSo: World Jazz A Capella, Saturday, Nov. 11, 7:30 p.m.—Join this smashing a capella sextet that sings a mix of jazz, R&B, gospel, world, pop, and improvisational music. This highly imaginative group was originally associated with Bobby McFerrin and his Voicestra.
- Gaelic Storm, Friday, Feb. 2, 7:30 p.m.—The "Steerage Party Band" seen in the blockbuster movie Titanic, Gaelic Storm provides the infectious flavor of traditional Irish music and dance presented with a delirious fury of raw, unmitigated pleasure.
- Reduced Shakespeare Company’s "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)," Wednesday, April 18, 7:30 p.m.—Known for their fast, funny, and physical condensations of things serious, the Reduced Shakespeare Company will surely tickle everyone’s funny bone.
The NexStar series is supported, in part, by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin.
Season tickets are on sale now. Individual tickets will be available beginning Aug. 29. For additional information on NexStar performances, please contact the Viterbo Fine Arts Center Box Office at 608-796-3100.
