VITERBO THEATRE AND MUSIC DEPARTMENTS PRESENT "IOLANTHE"

LA CROSSE, Wis.--The Viterbo Theatre Arts and Music Departments will present Gilbert and Sullivan’s "Iolanthe" at the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre Friday and Saturday, April 14-15 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 16 at 2 p.m.

This mystical tale examines what would happen if mortal and fairy worlds were to combine.  Iolanthe, a fairy, had committed the capital offence of marrying a mortal and now must deal with her son, Strephon, who has grown up a shepherd who is half fairy and half mortal.  When Strephon decides he wants to get married, it sends The House of Lords and The Queen of the Fairies into chaos.

The concept for the production is Hollywood ‘30s musicals, which gives a great excuse for beautiful sets and glorious costumes on which to hang this humorous play about parliament.  Experience a world in which all things are amusingly "topsy-turvy" through Gilbert and Sullivan’s eyes.

Susan Rush, chair of Theatre Arts at Viterbo, directs this production of "Iolanthe."

HSR Associates, an architecture, engineering, and interior design company sponsor this production.

Tickets are $12 and $9.  For more information, or to order tickets, contact the Viterbo Box Office at 608-796-3100.
