PLANS FOR VITERBO $130,000 "V-HAWK COURT" ANNOUNCED
LA CROSSE, Wis—A clock tower, kiosk, green space and park benches are part of the latest plans Viterbo has for beautifying and enhancing its campus and adjacent neighborhood.
Called V-Hawk Court, the area to be renovated is located between the college-owned Student Activities Center and the Rose Terrace student apartments, on property formerly known as Winnebago Street. The City of La Crosse vacated the roadway between 8th and 9th streets in August, 1998. The court is named after the V-Hawks, the official trademark of Viterbo’s athletic teams.
Funding for the $130,000 project comes from donations made to Viterbo’s Vision 2005 initiatives which have already been used to build endowment, construct student housing, create a new campus entryway to the Fine Arts Center and to acquire property and develop the new Outdoor Athletic Complex located in Madary Township.
A brick walkway which will run the course of V-Hawk Court also has created a unique opportunity for others to get involved. The hundreds of bricks used to construct the path will carry the names of employees, alumni, and other donors who participate in the project.
"We have already had a number of people ask about ‘buying a brick in the name of a family member or as a way to memorialize a loved one," said Kenna Christians, vice president of Institutional Advancement.
"Everyone who participates will receive a detailed map showing the exact location of the brick," Christians said.
"It’s really exciting to see this project develop," said William Medland, president of Viterbo College. "V-Hawk Court is located right in
the main corridor of our residential student life and activities area.
Though the Vision 2005 initiatives, we are striving to create a campus environment where living and learning opportunities can occur
simultaneously."
"This will create a wonderful green space for neighbors, students and visitors alike to enjoy," Medland added.
Construction on V-Hawk Court will begin after May graduation and be completed over the summer.
