STATE BOARD AWARDS GRANT TO VITERBO FINE ARTS PROGRAMS
LA CROSSE, Wis.—The arts in La Crosse recently received a boost when the Wisconsin Arts Board awarded Viterbo College an $11,290 grant from the Performing Arts Network.
Monies from the grant will fund Viterbo Bright Star Season and Arts for Young America events. Members of the Wisconsin Arts Board ranked Viterbo’s application and program the second in the state out of the 38 reviewed, saying its strengths included:
- High artistic quality of the series;
- Involvement of local schools and community members;
- High attendance for youth program;
- Strong commitment to its mission;
- Excellent staff structure and quality advisory board;
- And provision of master classes and other outreach opportunities.
An annual program of local, national, and international performances, the Bright Star Season is available to the general public. Events, which are held at the Viterbo Fine Arts Center range from plays, musicals and operas to symphonic music, jazz and dance. Arts for Young America is an annual series of national theatrical performances designed and performed for children. This series often involves area children in the plays or through educational opportunities in schools.
The Wisconsin Arts Board is the state agency that supports the arts throughout the state. The board has supported artists and organizations with monies from the state legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts since 1973.
