VITERBO STUDENTS FIGHT HUNGER BY RAISING FUNDS AND INCREASING AWARENESS
LA CROSSE, WIS.— More than 24,000 people die each day from hunger and hunger-related illnesses. Three-fourths of these people are children.
To raise awareness and funds in the fight against hunger, Viterbo College is hosting a World Banquet on Monday, Nov. 22 at 4:30 p.m. in the Marian Hall Dining Room. At the banquet, students can purchase a ticket, which enters them in a meal "lottery." Approximately 15 percent of the group will be served a full-course, gourmet meal. Another 30 percent will receive rice and beans while the remainder will receive only rice and water. The meal distribution reflects the unequal distribution of global resources.
The hunger banquet is sponsored by Viterbo College Campus Ministry. All proceeds will go to Oxfam International, a group of independent organizations from three continents that work to combat hunger, poverty, and social injustice.
