LA CROSSE, Wis.—A delegation from Sister City Luoyang, China will be in La Crosse, Oct. 28 through Nov. 2 thanks to a three-year cooperative agreement between the Luoyang Institute of Technology (LIT), Luoyang, China and Viterbo.

"We’re excited that the delegation will be arriving shortly," says Dr. William J. Medland, President, Viterbo College. "The relationship we are building will help our institutions enhance curriculum and develop a better understanding of our different cultures through the exchange of teaching and academic research."

This visit is the first from either institution since the agreement was developed two years ago.

As part of the exchange, Viterbo will send one of its own to China this spring. Dr. Lyon Evans, English Department, will teach in Luoyang for three months. In addition, a Global Studies course taught by Viterbo art professor Peter Fletcher, "The Cultural History of China," which includes a trip to Luoyang, will be offered to students for the spring semester.

While in La Crosse, the Chinese delegation will spend time at Viterbo and WWTC to observe classes, meet with various college officials and become familiar with the programs of the two institutions. Two members of the delegation will stay on at Viterbo for an additional month to study curriculum and meet with their respective departments to exchange ideas and information.

A reception and gift exchange ceremony will be held for members of the delegation on Friday, Oct. 29, at 3:15 p.m. in the FAC Hospitality Suite. It is open to the public.

The delegation includes: Yin Leifang, Vice President, LIT; Zhang Guangming, Deputy Director of Teaching Affairs, LIT; Zhang Renlong, Vice President, Luoyang Technology College (recently merged with LIT); Qiu Tianhe, Dean of Foreign Languages, LIT; and Xi Shengyang, Dean of Business School, LIT. In addition, Guan Jigang will assist with interpretation. He is chair of the English Department at the Foreign Language School of Luoyang and currently is in La Crosse teaching at Logan and Central.
