QUARTETTO GELATO BRINGS SHOWSTOPPING REPERTOIRE TO BRIGHT STAR SEASON
LA CROSSE, Wis.— The highly-acclaimed Canadian group Quartetto Gelato will be sharing their music, which ranges from gypsy fiddling and tangos to classical favorites, traditional melodies and operatic arias, with the La Crosse community on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Viterbo College Bright Star Season.
The group debuted on the U.S. music scene four years ago at the Oregon Bach Festival where they received rave reviews like, "They play together without scores, and with the conversational ease of old friends. Very funny old friends." Since then, they have played sold-out concerts in locations all over Canada, the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
In March 1996, Quartetto Gelato was named "Performance Today’s Debut Artist of the Year" by National Public Radio. The judges said Quartetto Gelato is "an amazing ensemble that achieves the nearly impossible: they play salon music with real style and classical music with real precision. Great chops and a commitment in all that they play."
Their premiere recording, Quartetto Gelato, was released in the U.S. in 1995 and was followed up with Rustic Chivalry and the CD recording Fresca. They can also be heard on the soundtrack of the major motion picture Only You, starring Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey, Jr. as well as the CD recording of Ashley McIsaak.
Members of Quartetto Gelato are Cynthia Steljes (oboe and English horn), Peter de Sotto (violin, voice and mandolin), Joseph Macerollo (accordion), and George Meanwell (cello, guitar, mandolin).
Seats are still available. For ticket information, contact the Viterbo College Fine Arts Center Box Office at 608-796-3100.
