LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Fine Arts Center Gallery 2007–08 season will open with a reception for a show featuring the photography of Susan Carr and Sarah Sorg Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.
The exhibition by Carr is entitled “Personal Spaces: Details of American Homes” and features photos of homes of people who have lived in the same place for 40 years or more. Carr serves on the National Board of Directors of The American Society of Media Photographers and was the organization’s president from 2004–06. Her work has been exhibited throughout the country, including at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Photography from Western Michigan University.
“Night” by Sorg features photos of the night sky, stars, and the moon, which include landscapes of land or local towns. In her photos, the stars and moon are all streaks of light due to exposure times ranging from two minutes to the entire night. Her work has also been exhibited throughout the country. Sorg earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the Massachusetts College of Art and a master’s degree with teacher certification from the Teacher’s College at Columbia University.
The photography show will run until Tuesday, Oct. 2. There is no admission to the gallery, which is located on the third floor of the Fine Arts Center on the Viterbo campus. The gallery is open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday–Friday when school is in session.
