LA CROSSE, Wis. – Jennifer Anderson-Meger, an associate professor of sociology, social work, and criminal justice, was named Viterbo University’s 2007 Teacher of the Year at the annual campus Rose Awards ceremony May 1.

“I’ve never met a more committed teacher who cares more about her students,” wrote a student who nominated Anderson-Meger for the award. “And she is extremely empowering in her skills as a teacher.”

Anderson-Meger began her career at Viterbo in 1993 as an off-campus coordinator for the School of Extended Learning. She became a member of the faculty in 2000.

She earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire and a Master of Science in Social Work degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Other Viterbo employees honored at the Rose Awards were:

Jennifer Sadowski, biology, received the Alec Chiu Award, which is presented for exceptional work at Viterbo to foster and develop scholarly opportunities for both students and faculty.

The Title III team, Mary Hassinger, Theresa Moore, Isaac Kulka, and Diane Haugen, and faculty coaches Carol Klitzke, Grant Smith, Naomi Stennes-Spidahl, and Judy Talbott were presented with the Pax et Bonum Award, which is given in recognition of demonstrating the Franciscan values of service, respect, hospitality, stewardship and joy throughout the Viterbo community.

Pat Kerrigan, vice president for communications and marketing, received the Sr. Helen Elsbernd Distinguished Service Award. The award is presented to an individual who has served the university for more than 20 years, typically in more than one capacity. He began his career at Viterbo in 1984.

Tina Mahlum-Johns, School of Adult Learning, was presented with the Outstanding Academic Advisor Award for her work with students.

Employees receiving servant leader awards were Sandra Bartel, communications and marketing, Kim Fredricks, biology, Chad Gilbeck, instructional and information technology, Jessica Kane, admission, and Eric Kunick, athletics.
