VITERBO UNIVERSITY THEATRE DEPARTMENT TO PRESENT THE DRUNKARD APRIL 19–21 AND 26–28
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Theatre Department will present The Drunkard in the Fine Arts Center La Croix Black Box Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19 to Saturday, April 21 and Thursday, April 26 to Saturday, April 28.
The Drunkard is a musical melodrama that audiences will find very entertaining, said Susan Rush, Viterbo music theatre professor and director of the play.
The original version of The Drunkard, a serious temperance play, opened in the 1840s, and was America’s most successful play before Uncle Tom’s Cabin. It was transformed into the current comedic version in the 1960s by Bro Herrod.
The play, which is complete with a villain, hero, and a heroine, will feature music by Barry Manilow and others, plus “Olio Acts,” which are entertainment pieces between acts of the main play. Soda and popcorn will also be sold for the audience to enjoy during the play.
Tickets are $10 for general admission seating. For more information, contact the Viterbo University box office at 608-796-3100 or www.viterbo.edu/finearts1.aspx.
