VITERBO UNIVERSITY ART GALLERY TO OPEN AUGUST 22
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The sculptural basket-like forms of artist Mary Merkel-Hess will be featured in the first Viterbo University Fine Arts Center Gallery exhibit of the 2006–07 season beginning Tuesday, Aug. 22.
The show Patterns of Growth will open with a reception in the gallery from 6–7:15 p.m. Merkel-Hess holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa. Her artwork, which she describes as “landscape reports,” involves sculpture and basket weaving and is inspired by her native Iowa. The show will run until Tuesday, Oct. 3.
The event is free and open to the public. The opening reception is being held in conjunction with the Viterbo Women’s Studies Symposium. There is no admission to the gallery, which is located on the third floor of the Fine Arts Center. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday when school is in session.
