VITERBO UNIVERSITY TO PRESENT PLAIN AND FANCY FEB. 22–24
LA CROSSE, Wis. – Viterbo University will present Plain and Fancy, a musical in the Rodgers and Hammerstein tradition, in the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre Friday, Feb. 22–Sunday, Feb. 24.
Plain and Fancy is the story of two New Yorkers, a writer and his girlfriend, who visit an Amish farm near Lancaster, Pa., to sell a piece of property. The two very different cultures collide in both funny and touching ways, and each group finds itself changed in some way by the encounter.
“I chose Plain and Fancy as the last directing assignment of my Viterbo career because I remember it so fondly from my summer stock days,” said Susan Rush, Viterbo theatre faculty member and director of the musical, who will retire at the end of the academic year. “It was the sleeper of the summer, an audience favorite and a favorite of the creative staff and cast. We simply fell in love with the story and the music.”
“While the show is long, I hope and expect that the audience will so enjoy themselves that the time will simply fly,” she said.
Plain and Fancy is part of Viterbo’s Bright Star Season and is co-sponsored by La Crosse Graphics, Inc., and Coulee Bank. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Feb. 22–23 and 2 p.m. Feb. 24. Tickets are $17 for main floor, $16 for lower balcony, and $13 for upper balcony seating. For more information, contact the Viterbo box office at 608-796-3100 or www.viterbo.edu/fac.
