Welcome to the Viterbo University Division of Natural Science

There has been an explosion in scientific and technological initiatives at the interface of biology and chemistry, from genetic engineering to the development of nano-materials. More than ever before, today's scientists are asking tougher questions— challenging questions—that can be answered only by crossing the lines that have, until recently, separated the traditional scientific disciplines.

At Viterbo University, our students learn the latest scientific techniques and methods within cross-disciplinary programs in which faculty in biology, chemistry, and physics work cooperatively to ensure each student gets the best possible science education.

Though we offer majors in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biopsychology, and natural science that prepare students for a broad range of careers—medical professions, graduate school, government and private sector research, and teaching—we emphasize integration of knowledge across the disciplines. Each student has the opportunity to conduct undergraduate research with a faculty mentor in a research project, many of which are at the interface of biology and chemistry.

Students are encouraged to think wisely and clearly about their roles as stewards of community resources and about the many ethical dilemmas facing today's scientists. They do this in a new, state-of-the-art facility dedicated to science, ethics, and technology. The D.B. and Marge Reinhart Center features wireless Internet access and distance learning technology that eliminates barriers of space and time and opens up a new world of learning possibilities.
